Motaz Naim’s work depicts the vast destruction in Gaza caused by the war, capturing the humanitarian catastrophe and its profound effect on lives and collective memory. It is a message for peace and justice after total destruction.

Naim’s pre-war paintings were celebrated for their virtuosic display of color in space, presenting the beauty of Palestine and Gaza. They stood as a testament to the beauty of a people’s resilience under siege and war. However, many of his paintings, like the landscapes he depicted, have been destroyed. His experience of genocide has radically shifted his approach to visual representation and painting.

The paintings Naim is producing for the biennale reflect the transformation of his original subject matter, marked by a total absence of color. Instead, they envelope the viewer in a landscape where colors lie dormant beneath restless movements, presenting a visualization of inner space and time. A new form of expressionism and abstraction has emerged, characterized by strong brushstrokes and dark colors to represent chaos and sorrow. His technique presents details in a blurred manner, to reflect the disarray caused by the war.

The work will be displayed in a large space, offering an immersive experience that enhances the sense of destruction and suffering. Dim lighting and an atmosphere of silence deepen the emotional impact, creating a powerful and evocative experience for viewers.

Motaz Naim, born in Damascus in 1973, earned a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University in 1997. He has held four solo exhibitions in Syria, Palestine, and the UAE, and regularly participates in art and cultural exhibitions both locally and internationally. His works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in several countries. Naim’s paintings reflect his personal and academic experiences, blending expressionism and abstraction inspired by Palestinian nature and memory. He uses a restrained color palette to depict the Palestinian reality, with visual manifestations that merge memory and modernity. Currently, Naim teaches art at Khan Younis College while being displaced in Egypt.

تميّزت لوحات معتز قبل الحرب بمساحتها اللونية المتقنة، مجسّدةً جمال فلسطين وغزة، كشهادة على صمود شعب تحت وطأة الحصار والحرب. دُمّرت العديد من لوحاته، لا سيمّا تلك التي صوّر من خلالها المناظر الطبيعية، كما غيرت تجربته تحت الإبادة الجماعية من نهجه في التمثيل البصري والرسم تغييرًا جذريًا. سيشارك معتز في البينالي بلوحات تعكس تحولًا في موضوعاته الأصلية. سنلاحظ غياب كامل للألوان، ونجد أنفسنا منغمسين في منظر طبيعي ألوانه خامدة خلف حركة مضطربة، مما يقدم تصورًا للفضاء الداخلي والزمن. ظهر نوع آخر من التعبيرية والتجريد، حيث استخدم لمسات فرشاة قوية وألوانًا داكنة لتمثيل الفوضى والحزن. التقنية المستخدمة تعرض التفاصيل بطريقة ضبابية لتعكس الاضطراب الناجم عن الحرب.

ستعرض الأعمال الفنية في مساحة واسعة، مما يخلق تجربة غامرة للمتلقي ويعزز إحساسه بالدمار والمعاناة. تُضيف الإضاءة الخافتة والصمت بعدًا للتأثير العاطفي، مما يجعلها تجربة مؤثرة مثيرة للمشاعر.

ولد الفنان معتز نعيم في دمشق عام 1973، وهو حاصل على درجة البكالوريوس من كلية الفنون الجميلة بجامعة دمشق عام 1997م. أقام أربعة معارض فردية في سوريا وفلسطين والإمارات، ويشارك بانتظام في المعارض الفنية والثقافية على المستويين المحلي والدولي. عُرضت أعماله في صالات عرض ومتاحف في دول عدة. يعمل حاليًا كمدرس للفنون في كلية خان يونس، ويعيش اليوم في مصر كنازح. تعكس لوحاته تجاربه الشخصية والأكاديمية، حيث تمزج بين التعبيرية والتجريد مستوحيًا الإلهام من الطبيعة الفلسطينية والذاكرة الوطنية. يوظف معتز لوحة ألوان محدودة لتصوير الواقع الفلسطيني من خلال تجليات بصرية تجمع بين الذاكرة والحداثة.
