Hazem Alzomar

Born in 1989, Rafah, Gaza, Palestine

Displaced in Al Mawasi, Khan Younis

Alzomar’s sculptural work is placed amidst rubble, which is transformed into both pedestal and exhibition space. Suspended between broken columns is a spherical construction resembling a rolled-up ball of wool, made from water pipes. Although its material appears to be excavated from the rubble from which it hangs, its floating form creates a mystical moment within a desolate, abandoned zone. Upon further examination, the form speaks to the struggle of obtaining water and the destruction of water wells. One senses a sculpture searching for life and water within itself.
