Al-Zumar’s sculptural work is placed between rubble which is transformed into pedestal and exhibition space. Suspended between broken columns is a spherical construction resembling a rolled-up ball of wool and made of water pipes. Although its material appears to be excavated from the rubble from which it hangs, its floating form creates a mystical moment within a desolate abandoned zone. Upon further examination, the form speaks to the struggle of obtaining water and the destruction of water wells. One senses a sculpture searching for life and water within itself.
