This war has produced ideas—one million ideas. All we do during the war is think; we spend our time thinking.

Each work needs an idea, and the idea needs fuel. Perhaps the war in Gaza, or the tragedy and drama of this war, is the fuel for each idea. Perhaps each idea requires at least one dramatic event. Every event is an idea. Every child that dies, every person’s search for food, is another idea. We do not wake up in the morning and say, ‘I will start thinking now’; events force us to think. Events that impose thought upon us and are the birth of something new.

The proposed location for his exhibition is the city of Jenin’s refugee camp. Jenin, in the West Bank, has been subjected to attacks by the occupation similar to those on Gaza. Firas Thabet’s works express the ‘Palestinian cause’ in all its forms. Themes of resistance, struggle, culture, Palestinian symbols, ideologies, revived ancient ideas, seasons, Palestinian sorrow, Palestinian joy, Palestinian families—everything related to Palestine and the Palestinian cause—is part of this exhibition.

لقد أنتجت هذه الحرب أفكارًا — مليون فكرة. كل ما نفعله خلال الحرب هو التفكير؛ نقضي وقتنا في التفكير.

كل عمل يحتاج إلى فكرة، والفكرة تحتاج إلى وقود. ربما تكون الحرب في غزة، أو مأساة هذه الحرب ودراميتها، هي الوقود لكل فكرة. ربما تحتاج كل فكرة إلى حدث درامي واحد على الأقل. كل حدث هو فكرة. كل طفل يموت، كل شخص يبحث عن الطعام، هو فكرة أخرى. نحن لا نستيقظ في الصباح ونقول: ”سأبدأ التفكير الآن“؛ الأحداث تجبرنا على التفكير. الأحداث التي تفرض علينا التفكير وتولد شيئًا جديدًا.

الموقع المقترح لمعرضه هو مخيم اللاجئين في مدينة جنين. تعرضت جنين، الواقعة في الضفة الغربية، لهجمات من قبل الاحتلال مشابهة لتلك التي تعرضت لها غزة. تعبر أعمال فراس ثابت عن ”القضية الفلسطينية“ بجميع أشكالها. موضوعات المقاومة، النضال، الثقافة، الرموز الفلسطينية، الأيديولوجيات، الأفكار القديمة التي أعيد إحياؤها، الفصول، الحزن الفلسطيني، الفرح الفلسطيني، العائلات الفلسطينية – كل ما يتعلق بفلسطين والقضية الفلسطينية – هو جزء من هذا المعرض.
